Short Courses

The Department of Open & Distance Learning (DODL) offers Distance or External degree, diploma and short course training programmes and has graduated thousands of students.

Makerere University started the external programmes in order to offer courses that meet national and international needs and to extend University resources to eligible and interested people who cannot pursue fulltime courses at the main University campus.

The Department of Open & Distance Learning (DODL) provides a more flexible mode of education that caters for a variety of needs, changing circumstances and learning requirements. To promote the University’s mission of offering services that meet needs of society, the Department offers the following programmes.

Short Courses and Capacity Building Programme
The following courses are developed to equip participants with skills and competencies aimed at bridging the knowledge and skills gap that may not be specifically covered by University or college education, yet are vital to do the current  job or look for a specific job.

Short Training Courses and Duration
These short courses normally take two months and can also be offered as tailor-made programmes. They include but are not limited to:

  1. Planning and Management of Income Generating Projects
  2. Principles and Practices in Youth in Development Work
  3. Research Skills for Research Assistants
  4. Small Business Management
  5. Editing abd Publishing
  6. Distance Education
  7. Marketing Skills
  8. Tailor Made Course and their Duration
